A devastating head-on collision on the Berekum-Sunyani trunk road has left eight people dead and several others injured.

The accident occurred at Nsuatre Amamfoso on Saturday and involved a private vehicle and a taxi.

Among the deceased are five women and three men. The taxi was reportedly transporting passengers from Sunyani to Berekum, while the private car was headed in the opposite direction.

Tragically, all five women in the private car, which bore the registration number GN 5753-22, perished, alongside two passengers from the taxi, registered AS 4819-17, who died instantly.

Numerous others sustained injuries of varying severity and were promptly taken to the hospital.

Eyewitness accounts suggest that a tire on the private car may have burst, likely due to the poor road conditions, leading to the loss of control and the fatal collision. Three passengers with critical injuries have been rushed to Berekum Holy Family Hospital for urgent medical care.

The Fire Service is currently investigating the incident to determine the exact cause of this tragic accident.
