Eastern and Western Regions Get New Special Voting Date After Ballot Discrepancy

EC recalls and reprints ballots for both regions after detecting seal issues

Story Highlights
  • Eastern and Western Regions rescheduled to December 5
  • Issues with a broken seal in the Eastern Region led to the reprinting of ballots for both regions
  • Special Voting for the rest of the country will proceed on December 2 as planned

The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced the rescheduling of the Special Voting exercise for the Eastern and Western Regions to Thursday, December 5.

This decision follows the recall of ballot papers for the presidential and parliamentary elections, originally set for Monday, December 2.

Jean Mensa, EC Chairperson, revealed the change during an emergency Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting on Sunday, December 1.

The rescheduling comes after a broken seal was detected on the electoral materials for the Eastern Region. While the Western Region’s ballot papers showed no issues, the same printing press was responsible for both regions’ materials.

As a result, the EC decided to recall and reprint the ballots for both regions as a precaution.

Special Voting for the rest of the country will proceed as planned on December 2.

The EC reassured all stakeholders of its dedication to ensuring a fair and credible election and called for patience and cooperation during this process.
