Dr. Smart Sarpong’s Survey Predicts Bawumia Leading 2024 Polls with 49.1%
With just weeks to go, the race remains competitive, but Bawumia leads in the polls.
- Bawumia holds 49.1% of voter support.
- Mahama trails with 45.8%
- NPP's regional strongholds give Bawumia the edge
A survey conducted by Professor Smart Sarpong and his research team predicts Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, will secure 49.1% of the vote in the upcoming 2024 presidential elections, leading the race just weeks before the December 7 polls.
John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, follows closely with 45.8%, while independent candidate Nana Kwame Bediako and former NPP aspirant John Allan Kyeremateng trail with 2.2% and 1.2%, respectively. Other candidates combine for 1.7%.
Professor Sarpong, from Kumasi Technical University, highlighted that the elections could potentially be decided in the first round, with the NPP having a slight edge.
He also noted significant regional divides, with Dr. Bawumia gaining support in the Ashanti, Eastern, and other key regions, while Mr. Mahama leads in the Greater Accra, Volta, and Northern regions.
In the parliamentary race, the NPP is predicted to retain a majority with at least 148 seats, while the NDC is forecasted to secure 92 seats, with the remaining 56 constituencies remaining highly competitive.
Despite the presence of independent candidates, none are expected to win their respective seats.
