  • Free SHS covers high school expenses, while the focus is on funding tertiary education
  • Student loan schemes and scholarships available to assist financially needy students in tertiary education

Education Minister Dr. Yaw Adutwum has announced that all scholarship schemes will now be redirected from senior high school (SHS) to tertiary institutions.

This decision follows the implementation of Free SHS, which already covers the expenses at the high school level.

Previously, scholarships such as the Cocobod and government scholarships were available to SHS students, but now these funds will be dedicated to supporting students pursuing higher education.

This change aims to provide more opportunities for deserving, talented students to pursue tertiary education without financial barriers.

Dr. Adutwum also emphasized that the student loan scheme remains available to assist students who need further financial help.

“With just your ID card and Ghana Card, you can access loans to support your education,” he said.

The Minister assured that the government’s focus is on ensuring that students are able to complete their tertiary education without interruptions, unlike previous years.
