Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Vice Presidential Candidate, has reassured trainee nurses that the government is dedicated to minimizing delays in their allowance payments.
Speaking at the Korle-Bu Nursing and Midwifery Training College in Greater Accra during a campaign for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, he emphasized that while occasional delays may happen, they are far better than the complete cancellation of allowances, which the NPP reinstated after the previous administration eliminated them.
The trainee nurses recognized the significance of their votes in the upcoming December 7 elections and pledged to support policies that would benefit Ghana’s future, including the Free Senior High School (SHS) program, which they see as a benefit for their younger siblings and generations to come.
They also voiced their commitment to initiatives like Agenda 111, aimed at building hospitals for their future workplaces, and ensuring a stable power supply.
The students expressed their backing for Dr. Bawumia, praising him as a visionary leader steering Ghana towards the Fourth Industrial Revolution through digital innovation.
Dr. Opoku Prempeh took this opportunity to encourage the trainees to share the hopeful message of progress that Dr. Bawumia and the NPP embody.
Reassuring the trainees about their allowances, Dr. Opoku Prempeh reminded them that the NPP fulfilled its 2020 promise by restoring the nursing training allowances, which had been cut under the previous government.
He acknowledged their concerns over payment irregularities but stressed that the government is actively working to resolve these issues to ease their financial burdens.
“Delays may occur, but allowances delayed are better than allowances cancelled,” he stated, expressing hope for smoother future disbursements.
Dr. Henry Kwabena Kokofu, a senior campaign aide, underscored the importance of the upcoming elections, highlighting Dr. Bawumia’s choice of Dr. Prempeh as his running mate due to his leadership qualities and political acumen. He noted that victory in the elections will hinge on robust support from all constituencies, especially the Ashanti Region.
Prince Obeng, the Greater Accra Regional Organizer of the NPP, also addressed the assembly, stressing that the 2024 elections are pivotal for Ghana’s future. He praised the government’s focus on education, digitalization, industrialization, and skills training, reinforcing the idea that these areas are foundational to the NPP’s vision for progress.
