Debt Crisis Threatens WASSCE 2024 Results – Minority Raises Red Flag
Parliament Minority calls for urgent action from Finance and Education Ministers to avert delays in exam results critical for tertiary admissions
- WAEC is owed over 100 million Ghana Cedis, disrupting operations and payments to examiners
- The 2024 WASSCE results may miss the December 19 deadline due to examiners withholding scripts
- Minority demands Finance and Education Ministers address the crisis to prevent impacts on tertiary admissions
The Minority in Parliament is calling for the urgent summoning of the Finance and Education Ministers to address a debt of over 100 million Ghana Cedis owed to the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
The unpaid debt has reportedly disrupted WAEC’s operations, delaying equipment maintenance, payments to examiners, and the anticipated release of the 2024 WASSCE results.
Speaking in Parliament, Peter Nortsu-Kotoe, the Ranking Member of the Education Committee, warned that the December 19 target date for releasing results might not be met if examiners continue withholding marked scripts over unpaid allowances.
He urged Parliament to demand explanations from the ministers, stressing the potential impact on students who risk missing tertiary admissions in January 2025.
