A dangerous escalation of the Bawku chieftaincy conflict has spilled onto the Bolgatanga-Tamale highway.
Armed men, suspected to be involved in the ongoing clashes, have set up roadblocks near Gbimsi in the North East Region. They have been stopping vehicles and targeting passengers believed to be from the Kusasi ethnic group.
One terrified survivor recounted the ordeal, describing how the armed men, armed with AK-47s, were screening travelers and attacking those identified as Kusasi.
The situation has created a climate of fear and uncertainty, as residents and travelers alike are caught in the crossfire.
Efforts to reach the North East Regional Police Command for comment have been unsuccessful.
