A recent High Court ruling on January 4 confirmed Charles Forson of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as the winner of the Tema Central seat.
Following the re-collation of votes from two outstanding polling stations at the Accra Regional Office, Forson emerged victorious with 18,870 votes, narrowly beating National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate Ebi Bright, who secured 18,815 votes. Frederick Aniagyei received 209 votes.
The total valid votes cast were 37,894, with 144 ballots rejected, bringing the total number of votes cast to 38,038. The court had earlier instructed the Electoral Commission (EC) to finalize results for several constituencies, including Tema Central, by January 6, 2025, while ensuring security during the process.
The ruling followed legal action from NPP candidates who challenged the EC’s incomplete results. Justice Forson Agyapong clarified that the EC’s failure to include two polling stations in Tema Central meant the results could not be considered final. The court stressed the EC’s duty to uphold electoral fairness and transparency.
The case also highlighted discrepancies in results from other constituencies, including Ablekuma North, Okaikwei Central, and Techiman South, where polling station results had been left uncollated.
