Court Delays Ruling on Bernard Mornah's Disqualification to October 21
- Court has adjourned until October 21 to issue a ruling on a motion filed by Bernard Mornah
- The EC disqualified 11 candidates, including Mornah
- Mornah argues that the commission violated constitutional provisions
The High Court in Accra has adjourned until October 21 to issue a ruling on a motion filed by Bernard Mornah, the flagbearer of the People’s National Convention (PNC), challenging the Electoral Commission’s (EC) decision to disqualify him from the 2024 presidential election.
The EC disqualified 11 candidates, including Mornah, citing errors in their nomination forms that were not corrected.
Mornah, one of three individuals who have filed legal actions against the EC, argues that the commission violated constitutional provisions by not allowing him the chance to rectify these errors.
In response, the EC contends that while they identified some mistakes, they did not communicate those considered criminal to the candidates.
During Wednesday’s court session, Mornah’s legal team argued that the commission overstepped its discretionary powers.
Harold Atuguba, Mornah’s lawyer, called for the suspension of all electoral activities related to the presidential election until the court renders its decision.
