COCOBOD to Fund University Education for Cocoa Farmers’ Children, Says Bawumia
As Free SHS Benefits All, COCOBOD Steps Up to Fund University Education for Farmers' Families
- The new initiative will cover university fees for children of cocoa farmers, starting next year
- COCOBOD will repurpose funds previously used for SHS scholarships to support higher education
- This policy aims to remove financial barriers and empower the next generation of cocoa farmers
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, has announced a transformative plan by COCOBOD to provide full funding for tertiary education to children of cocoa farmers.
This initiative is set to replace the existing Senior High School (SHS) scholarship scheme, which has become redundant with the Free SHS program now in effect.
Speaking at the Farmers’ Day celebration in Jocubu, Odotobri constituency, Dr. Bawumia emphasized that this shift is designed to lift financial barriers for cocoa farmers, allowing their children to pursue higher education.
Under this plan, COCOBOD will redirect funds previously used for SHS scholarships to cover tertiary education expenses for farmers’ children starting next year, ensuring continued educational support tailored to the needs of cocoa farming families.
