The Chadian government has announced a three-day period of national mourning, effective Tuesday midnight, to honor the soldiers who lost their lives in a recent attack in Lac province.

During this time, flags will fly at half-mast, and all festivities will be suspended nationwide.

Only religious music and prayers will be permitted on media and in places of worship.

The deadly assault on a military base in Barkaram claimed the lives of at least 40 soldiers.

President Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno has vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice and has expressed deep sorrow for the families affected by this tragedy.

Chad continues to grapple with an ongoing insurgency in the Lake Chad region, where clashes between government forces and militant groups, such as Boko Haram, are frequent.
