In a recent address during his Eastern Regional tour, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, reiterated his firm stance against the acceptance of LGBTQ+ practices in Ghana, emphasizing that such ideas contradict the nation’s religious and cultural principles.
Speaking to a gathering of clergy, traditional leaders, and local stakeholders in Anyinam, he pointed out that both the Bible and the Quran, along with Ghanaian traditions, do not support LGBTQ+ activities.
This statement came after the commissioning of a new constituency office by the Member of Parliament for Atewa East, Abena Osei Asare.
Dr. Bawumia assured the audience that if elected, he would lead the NPP in staunchly opposing any efforts to introduce LGBTQ+ ideologies, regardless of outside influences or the potential costs.
“Recently, there have been discussions about LGBTQ rights and same-sex marriage; that will never happen in this country. We will not allow it,” he declared. “It contradicts our religious texts and cultural values, and we will stand firm against its introduction, no matter the consequences.”
Addressing concerns about illegal mining, Dr. Bawumia proposed a new approach to streamline operations to protect water bodies and forests.
He suggested implementing a localized licensing regime for small-scale mining, involving traditional leaders in the licensing process to ensure community engagement. “We need to decentralize mining licenses, empowering local chiefs to play a vital role,” he stated.
