Brogya Genfi, the Deputy Director of Special Duties for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has slammed Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, calling him the “worst NPP presidential candidate in history” following the December 7 general election.
Speaking on the Lawson TV/Radio Morning Show, Ghana Se Sen Genfi celebrated NDC’s resounding victory, where Mr. John Dramani Mahama secured 6,382,397 votes (56.55%) against Bawumia’s 4,657,304 votes (41.61%).
Genfi emphasized that Mahama’s decisive 1.7 million vote margin is historic and a monumental achievement for Ghana.
“No presidential candidate has ever won with such a significant margin,” he noted, declaring the NDC’s victory as a symbolic “second independence” for the country.
He also accused the NPP of rigging elections in certain regions, particularly in Ashanti, but stressed that the NDC had countered these efforts, matching the NPP “boot for boot.”
According to Genfi, the election was not just about Bawumia but also a widespread rejection of the Akufo-Addo administration, which he claimed had left Ghanaians in widespread hardship.
“It was even in the interest of the NPP to sack Akufo-Addo and Bawumia for the party to regroup,” he said.
Genfi further asserted that despite Bawumia’s high profile, the NPP’s defeat reflected his inability to resonate with the electorate. “Even in our worst defeats, we never saw the kind of support Bawumia failed to garner,” he concluded.
