  • The allegations have divided Parliament

Activist Oliver Barker-Vormawor is ready to present his case before Parliament’s Appointments Committee, eager to back up his serious allegations that committee members demanded bribes from ministerial nominees in exchange for approval.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Barker-Vormawor expressed his anticipation, stating, “I look forward to appearing before the committee tomorrow.” His scheduled appearance on Wednesday, January 29, will aim to clarify his claims, which have sparked intense discussions online and prompted denials from committee members.

The committee’s Chairman, Bernard Ahiafor, has strongly rejected the allegations, calling them unfounded in a press briefing on January 28. Ahiafor confirmed that neither he nor any committee member had engaged in bribery and instructed the Clerk to formally invite Barker-Vormawor to present evidence.

As the debate rages, the committee has temporarily paused its proceedings, and opinions within Parliament remain divided. Some Minority members have called for the vetting process to be suspended until the claims are addressed, while others warn that such a move could disrupt government operations.

Barker-Vormawor remains resolute, noting, “This is how a democracy improves.”
