Ghana’s iconic Baba Yara Stadium is officially ready to host football matches again.
Patience Adams, the Public Relations Officer for the National Sports Authority (NSA) in the Ashanti Region confirmed that while the venue is fully operational, it still awaits formal clearance from higher authorities in Accra before it can officially reopen.
“All renovations at Baba Yara Stadium have been completed, making it ready for any football events. However, we are waiting for approval from our superiors in Accra before we can proceed,” she explained.
The stadium had been closed for renovations after CAF deemed it unsuitable for international play, mainly due to the poor condition of the pitch. This closure forced Ghana to move its 2025 AFCON qualifiers against Sudan to Accra and required Asante Kotoko SC to relocate their home games to Obuasi.
As the sports community looks forward to the necessary approvals from Accra, the potential for upcoming events at Baba Yara Stadium is exciting.
The venue is set to host both local and international matches, reinforcing Kumasi’s status as a key hub for football action.
