Seth Panwum, the Board Chairman of the National Sports Authority (NSA), has announced that the Baba Yara Sports Stadium is prepared to welcome football matches once more.

The stadium had been closed for upgrades after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) withdrew its approval for Category Three games at the venue, following Ghana’s 1-0 loss to Angola in a 2025 AFCON qualifier.

Panwum confirmed that clubs like Kumasi Asante Kotoko, which rely on the stadium for home games, will soon be able to resume play there. “Baba Yara is undergoing re-turfing, and the grass is now up to standard,” he stated.

He added that the NSA plans to conduct further assessments after upcoming matches to ensure everything is in order before allowing Asante Kotoko back on the pitch.

Since the closure, the Premier League side has been playing their home games at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium.

While it may be too soon for Asante Kotoko to return for their match against Nations F.C. on Sunday, the stadium is expected to host the highly anticipated Super Clash between Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak soon.
