Collins Atta Poku, a prominent sports journalist dedicated to improving Ghanaian football, has exposed multiple challenges facing the Black Stars following their shocking loss to Sudan in the 2025 Morocco AFCON Qualifiers in Libya.
After four matches played, Ghana lies in third place in Group F with two points, Sudan in second place with seven points, while Angola leads with nine points, waiting to play their fourth game.
Prior to this game, Ghana drew 1-1 against Niger, lost to Angola at home by a goal to zero, and drew goalless at home against Sudan.
The Black Stars will travel to face Angola and play the last match against Niger in Ghana.
The chances of the team qualifying have become slim, with a defeat in any of the next two games likely to jeopardize the team’s chances of qualifying for the 2025 AFCON in Morocco.
Speaking on the ‘Ghana Se Sen’ Morning Show on Lawson TV/Radio with the host, Kwame Tanko, he emphasized that the issues are complex and numerous.
One major concern he highlighted is dishonesty within the Ghana Football Association (GFA), noting that members often share conflicting information during their meetings.
He also pointed out a troubling lack of unity within the team.
Addressing the sudden captaincy change from Jordan Ayew to Mohammed Kudus just before the Sudan match, Atta Poku criticized Coach Otto Addo for making a decision that could exacerbate past captaincy disputes.
He recalled tensions between former captains Kwadwo Asamoah and Dede Ayew, questioning why such a sensitive issue was allowed to resurface.
“Fatau Dauda, you know what happened between Kwadwo Asamoah and Dede Ayew regarding the captaincy issue, so why would you allow that to happen?” he said.
Atta Poku expressed disappointment over captain Thomas Partey’s absence from a crucial match, despite being fit.
“In a crucial match, our captain Thomas Partey is not injured, but he didn’t honor the match.”
He concluded by stating that the Black Stars have lost their competitive edge, noting a diminished fear factor among opponents.
