The management of Asante Kotoko, in collaboration with its supporters’ leadership, has announced a special candlelight vigil in memory of their devoted fan, Francis Yaw Frimpong, affectionately known as Nana Pooley.
Pooley tragically lost his life after being stabbed by unknown assailants during the Matchday 19 clash between Nsoatreman FC and Asante Kotoko at the Nana Kronmansah Park in Nsoatre.
The vigil will take place on Sunday, February 9, 2025, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi. The event aims to celebrate Pooley’s life while amplifying calls for justice and reforms in Ghanaian football, especially concerning safety at match venues.
Asante Kotoko’s management has invited supporters, football fans, and the general public to join the gathering and urged participants to bring candles to honor the memory of their fallen brother.
“This is a moment for solidarity as we come together to remember our brother and advocate for lasting change in our football environment,” the management said in an official statement.
The solemn event underscores the club’s unity in the face of tragedy and its commitment to fostering accountability.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has made significant progress in the case, arresting six individuals, including Nsoatreman FC owner Ignatius Baffour Awuah, in connection with the incident.
