Club Prioritizes Domestic Goals as Visa Complications Force Withdrawal
- Players and technical staff unable to secure necessary travel documents in time
- Kotoko clarifies they are not associated with the Capital City Africa Cup
- The team maintains unbeaten start in the Ghana Premier League
Asante Kotoko has officially withdrawn from the upcoming Capital City Africa Cup, set for October 12, 2024, in Washington, D.C., due to visa complications.
The club cited difficulties in securing necessary travel documents for their players and technical staff as the primary reason for their decision. In a statement, Kotoko expressed disappointment, noting, “Despite ongoing discussions with event organizers and expectations that our visa issues would be resolved by the evening of October 10, we unfortunately could not secure the necessary visas in time. As a result, we have determined that participation in this year’s game is unfeasible.”
Kotoko emphasized their commitment to professionalism throughout the process but acknowledged that circumstances beyond their control led to their withdrawal. They affirmed their dedication to maintaining high standards and values.
The club made it clear that they are distancing themselves from the event, stating, “The brand Asante Kotoko SC is not associated with the game or any activities related to the Capital City Africa Cup.”
While fans may be disappointed, the club is now focused on domestic competitions, with their first group of seven players and technical staff returning to Ghana on October 13.
After their return, Kotoko aims to continue building on their impressive start in the Ghana Premier League, where they currently sit atop the table with an unbeaten record after five matches.
“We appreciate our fans’ understanding and support during this time,” the club concluded.
