Artistes Never Retire, They Evolve – Wutah Kobby
The Ghanaian Musician Advocates for Lifelong Creativity and Celebrating Experience
- Wutah Kobby believes artists should be valued regardless of their career length
- Older musicians have invaluable knowledge that can enrich the industry
- Unlike sports, music is a lifelong journey
Ghanaian musician Wutah Kobby firmly believes that artists can thrive at any stage of their careers, and he strongly opposes the idea of “early retirement” for musicians.
He argues that the local tendency to dismiss seasoned artists simply because they’ve been in the industry for a while is misguided.
In a recent interview, the former member of the duo Wutah expressed his frustration over how older musicians are often overlooked, despite their wealth of experience that can greatly benefit newer talents.
“No one should have the authority to dictate when a creative should stop working. Artists should have the freedom to create and perform for as long as they wish, regardless of their age. Unlike sports, where athletes face age restrictions, music knows no boundaries. It’s a lifelong journey that begins at birth and continues until the end,” he asserted.
He pointed to the recent performance of Yvonne Chaka Chaka in Ghana, noting that the audience was captivated by her talent, demonstrating that longevity in the industry can still bring joy and excitement.
Wutah Kobby, who recently released the single “Dollar Dollar,” is preparing to launch a new EP featuring five or six tracks with collaborations from other Ghanaian artists.
“I’m optimistic that this upcoming project will resonate with fans back home. Exciting new music is on the way, and I encourage everyone to support it,” he shared.
