Agitated National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters in the Asante Mampong Constituency took matters into their own hands on Thursday, April 10, when they stormed the party office, smashing property and igniting flames in protest.

The unrest was sparked by rumors circulating that Esther Dwomoh had been nominated for the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) role, despite no official announcement from the Presidency.

The youth, who had expected one of the three shortlisted candidates—2024 Parliamentary Candidate Yakubu Yakubu, Constituency Chairman Mohammed Kamil, or Imoro Iddrisu—to be selected, expressed their anger by vandalizing the office.

Police and fire officers responded promptly to the scene, but no arrests were made, and the flames were extinguished. NDC Communications Officer Kwaku Bernasko confirmed the disturbance, attributing it to the frustration of the youth over the unconfirmed MCE nominee.

“We couldn’t control the crowd; party properties like chairs and tables were broken and set ablaze at the forecourt of the party office,” he narrated.
