Professor Mike Oquaye, the former Speaker of Parliament, has asserted that the Free Senior High School (SHS) initiative stands out as President Akufo-Addo’s most significant legacy.

Launched in 2017, this program covers all fees for students enrolled in public and vocational senior high schools, including expenses for textbooks and meals.

In a recent interview, Prof. Oquaye emphasized that the free SHS concept was part of Akufo-Addo’s vision from the very beginning of his presidential campaign.

He highlighted the president’s belief in education as the cornerstone for national transformation.

“Free SHS is Akufo-Addo’s best legacy,” he said. “From his first campaign, he made it clear that education is the key to changing this nation and building human capital to make Ghana great.”

When asked about former President Mahama’s legacy, Mr. Oquaye found it challenging to identify any significant public policy but acknowledged Mahama’s infrastructure projects, such as the Ridge Hospital and Terminal 3, although he questioned whether they could be considered true legacies.
