President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has called on Ghanaians to prioritize peace as the country prepares for the December 7 elections.
In a heartfelt appeal, he stressed the importance of protecting Ghana’s hard-earned democratic reputation, describing it as a national treasure that must be safeguarded.
Speaking at a Thanksgiving service at the Cathedral Anglican Church in Accra, as part of his three-day tour of the Greater Accra Region, President Akufo-Addo reiterated his plea for a violence-free election.
He emphasized that every citizen has a role in ensuring that the electoral process remains peaceful, reflecting Ghana’s unwavering commitment to democracy.
“My message today is simple: across the world, when people talk about Africa and democracy, they refer to Ghana as the beacon of democratic governance on the continent,” President Akufo-Addo said.
He highlighted that December 7 would mark the ninth consecutive election where Ghanaians have the opportunity to demonstrate their commitment to democratic principles. “Every four years, the people decide who will lead and govern them. This Saturday, we will once again have the chance to show the world that we understand what democratic governance is all about,” he stated.
The President called on the Electoral Commission, security services, and the government to ensure that all arrangements are in place for a smooth, peaceful, and fair election. “I appeal to all of you to make sure that the election is peaceful, free, and fair,” he concluded.
