Kofi Adams, Member of Parliament for Buem Constituency, has criticized outgoing President Nana Akufo-Addo for commissioning bridges during his “Thank You” tour in the Ashanti Region, instead of fulfilling his promise to build five interchanges.
On Monday, November 26, 2024, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo officially inaugurated the newly reconstructed 40-meter Atafoa Bridge.
Kofi Adams said he will not dismiss the commissioning of the bridge but stated that Akufo-Addo cannot promise interchanges and then commission a bridge, adding that it is a disgrace to commission a bridge under such circumstances.
Speaking on the Ghana Se Sen morning show on Lawson TV/Radio with Kwame Tanko, Adams urged the people of Ashanti not to vote for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the upcoming elections.
He accused Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of failing to deliver on their commitments to the region.
“The NPP leadership knows they’ve disappointed the Ashanti people. That’s why they’re here apologizing,” Adams said.
Highlighting the significance of the Ashanti Region in national elections, he noted that no party could secure victory without securing substantial support from the region.
Kofi Adams pointed out that in 2016, Akufo-Addo garnered more votes in Ashanti than former President Kufuor did across his two terms, reflecting high expectations from the electorate.
However, Adams lamented that businesses in the region have declined under the current administration despite the resources at its disposal.
He urged voters to reconsider their loyalty, stating, “We vote to improve our living conditions. If that doesn’t happen, it’s time to rethink our choices. Blind loyalty to a party doesn’t serve our interests.”
