Unfortunate incidents
Touching on the post election 2024 acts of violence and lawlessness that characterized the just ended presidential and parliamentary elections, President Akufo-Addo said they were unnecessary and they could have been avoided. The President was particularly concerned about the fact that members of the top leadership and executives of the NDC were at the forefront of inciting NDC supporters to engage in acts of lawlessness.
“It is with deep concern that I acknowledge the unfortunate incidents of post elections holiganism, vandalism and violence that followed, incidents that threatened to tarnish the beauty of our democratic exercise. Such acts were completely unnecessary and are wholly unacceptable. They must never reoccur,” President Akufo-Addo noted.
“It is particularly regrettable that these unfortunate disturbances appeared to inform so executives and sympatises of the victorious party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC). As a nation, we must be resolute in our commitment to safeguarding peace, stability and the democratic values we have worked so hard to establish,” PresidentAkufo-Addo further noted.
Shared Heritage
President Akufo-Addo commended the Electoral Commission (EC) for supervising a successful election and for doing everything within their mandate to collate and declare the certified election results for both the presidential and parliamentary elections in all 276 constituencies in the country.
“I commend greatly, the Electoral Commission (EC) for its diligent and transparent efforts in supervising the electoral process and in compiling and delivering the results of the elections.
“Let this moment serve as a reminder to all of us that Ghana’s democratic credentials are a shared heritage, one that we must all protect and cherish at all times,” Akufo-Addo pointed out.
Seminal moment
Chairperson of the Bicentennial Planning Committee of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rev Dr Godwin Nii Noi Odonkor, on behalf of the Bicentennial Anniversary Planning Committee thanked God for the opportunity to lead the Church to celebrate this auspicious anniversary.
“I believe that this anniversary
should be a seminal moment in our lives to ask relevant questions of ourselves. How are we doing as a church? Has the journey taken us to where we ought to be or where we should have been? These are critical and relevant questions for our reflection.
This Bicentennial celebration should undoubtedly attempt to answer these questions; so, it is a God-given opportunity to use the occasion to celebrate the faithfulness of our forebears and find answers to these profound questions,” Rev Dr Godwin Nii Noi Odonkor said.
“We should also make good time to celebrate God for the lives of those who have contributed to the growth and development of the Church, and those of us who now have the privilege to be part of it today.
“Over the years, God has been the rock on which we have based the Presbyterian Church of Ghana and we have every cause to thank and celebrate him for all the ways he has blessed us, the fellowship we Launch, have share, the support given and received,” Rev Dr Nii Noi Odonkor added.
