Outgoing President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has pledged his full commitment to ensuring a smooth and seamless transition of power to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and President-elect John Dramani Mahama.
The pledge was made during the inauguration of the 2024 National Transition Team on Wednesday, December 11, at the Jubilee House in Accra.
The meeting marked a key moment in Ghana’s democratic process, bringing together members from both the outgoing and incoming administrations to formally begin the power transition.
In his address, President Akufo-Addo reaffirmed his dedication to providing the incoming administration with the necessary resources and support for a successful start. He emphasized that a smooth transition is not just a matter of procedure but a responsibility owed to the people of Ghana.
“I assure President Mahama of my full support, along with that of my government, throughout the transition process, to ensure his administration takes off in the best possible conditions,” Akufo-Addo stated.
The outgoing President also stressed the importance of continuity in governance, highlighting the need for both transition teams to work together to ensure an efficient handover of responsibilities.
In his response, President-elect Mahama expressed gratitude to President Akufo-Addo and the outgoing administration for their commitment to a peaceful transition. He emphasized the crucial role of the transition in promoting national unity and stability.
Mahama acknowledged the nation’s challenges, including economic and security concerns, and vowed to work closely with the outgoing administration to address these issues effectively.
“President Akufo-Addo has briefed me on the security situation, both internal and external, as well as economic matters. The transition teams will dive deeper into these issues, and together, we will work in the best interest of Ghana to ensure a smooth and successful transition,” Mahama concluded.
