- Calls for a total overhaul of NPP leadership, praising only General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua
- Urges the party to reconcile with estranged members and focus on rebuilding grassroots support
Former Obuasi East MP Edward Ennin has blamed the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) historic electoral defeat on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s leadership, describing his tenure as marred by poor decision-making, arrogance, and divisive policies.
According to Ennin, the President’s refusal to heed advice from party executives and his push for unpopular policies alienated the party’s grassroots.
The former lawmaker also criticized Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia’s leadership as flagbearer, claiming his campaign strategy fostered confusion and deepened tribal divisions within the party.
Ennin questioned Bawumia’s credentials, arguing his sudden rise in the party, starting in 2018, lacked a solid foundation.
Ennin did not spare other party executives, accusing them of blindly following the President and failing to protect the party’s integrity. He praised General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua as a rare bright spot in the leadership but called for a comprehensive overhaul of the party’s structure.
Looking forward, Ennin urged the NPP to reunite by bringing back estranged members like Alan Kyerematen, Kwabena Agyapong, and Hopeson Adorye, and by imposing strict sanctions on underperforming executives.
He also suggested barring parliamentary candidates who lost the recent elections from contesting internal polls, emphasizing the need for a united front to rebuild the party’s base.
