- Gyan has announced the postponement of the All Regional Games
- The event aims to uncover sporting talent throughout Ghana
- He stepped back from the NPP to focus on humanitarian efforts
Asamoah Gyan has announced the postponement of the All Regional Games, which were originally scheduled to commence this year, now pushed back to 2025.
Launched in July 2024, the event aims to uncover sporting talent throughout Ghana, with trials already underway to select top athletes.
In a statement, Gyan explained that the delay is intended to create a “bigger and more impactful event.”
The specific date for the rescheduled event will be announced soon.
Each region was responsible for conducting trials to identify their best athletes, aged 18 to 23, who were to compete against peers from other regions.
The competition was set to include nine sports disciplines: Football, Athletics, Volleyball, Basketball, Tennis, Table Tennis, Boxing, E-sports, and Arm-wrestling.
Gyan’s statement emphasized the commitment of the All Regional Games to identifying and nurturing athletes who can represent Ghana on the international stage.
He assured registered athletes that their information remains secure and that they will be prioritized for the 2025 edition, while new participants will also be welcomed through the same rigorous trial process.
Initially, Gyan was aligned with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as chairman of the Youth and Sports sub-committee for the party’s manifesto team.
However, six months later, he stepped back from the NPP to focus on humanitarian efforts, admitting he had not “been fair to the youth and the people of Ghana.”
