  • Lands Minister reveals nine forest reserves are under illegal miners' control
  • Minority Leader demands concrete measures to reclaim forests and ensure media freedom.

The Minority Leader, Mr. Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has called on Parliament to summon the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Mr. Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, and the Minister for Communication and Digital Technology, Mr. Samuel Nartey George, to answer pressing questions regarding their respective ministries.

Mr. Afenyo-Markin raised concerns over the recent closure of seven radio stations, allegedly ordered by Mr. Sam George through the media secretariat of his ministry.

He argued that the closure of media houses falls under the jurisdiction of the National Media Commission (NMC) and questioned why the Communications Minister took unilateral action.

Additionally, he expressed alarm over revelations by the Lands Minister that nine out of 44 forest reserves have been taken over by illegal miners (galamsey thugs), preventing the Forestry Commission and forest guards from accessing these lands.

The Minority Leader is demanding that Mr. Armah Buah brief Parliament on measures being implemented to reclaim the occupied forest reserves.

Afenyo-Markin insists that both ministers must be held accountable and provide clarity on these critical national issues.
