AFCON Qualifying Victories Bring 'Pride' to War-Torn Sudan
- Sudan defeated the Black Stars 2-0 in a neutral ground match
- Sudan has been embroiled in a civil
- People are coming out to watch the matches
Sudan’s recent victory over Ghana in the qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) has brought pride and joy to a nation grappling with civil war, according to forward Abobaker Eisa.
Sudan defeated the Black Stars 2-0 in a neutral ground match in Libya on Tuesday and now requires just one point from their final two qualifiers next month to secure a spot in the tournament.
Since April of last year, Sudan has been embroiled in a civil war between the national army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia, resulting in millions displaced and many facing famine, making it one of the world’s most severe humanitarian crises.
“Given the current situation in Sudan with the civil war, we are playing a much bigger game,” Eisa told Newsday on the BBC World Service.
“People are coming out to watch the matches, and this brings them joy amidst the chaos. It instills a sense of pride in them.”
He added, “We hope for a better future for our country and aim to be a source of positivity for our people.”
