- Okudzato Ablakwa urges President Akufo-Addo to dissolve the National Cathedral Board
- CHRAJ has called for a forensic audit of the cathedral’s construction
- CHRAJ has recommended an investigation into the National Cathedral Board of Trustees
Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has called on President Akufo-Addo to urgently dissolve the Secretariat of the National Cathedral Board of Trustees.
The call comes after the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) released its report following an investigation into the National Cathedral saga.
In the report, CHRAJ recommended an investigation and possible prosecution of the Board of Trustees of the National Cathedral project.
It also suggested that the Auditor General conduct a forensic audit on the construction of the cathedral.
CHRAJ further found that the contract with Ribade Company Limited for the construction of the cathedral violated the Public Procurement Act.
In a press conference held in the Ashanti Regional capital, Kumasi, on Tuesday, November 26, Mr. Ablakwa argued that since CHRAJ has affirmed his claims regarding the contract and other issues, and given that the project has been halted, the board should be dissolved immediately.
Mr. Ablakwa also demanded that President Akufo-Addo personally cover the costs of compensation for the institutions and bodies whose properties were destroyed to make way for the construction of the National Cathedral project.
