The Mpraeso District Court, led by Her Lordship Adwoa Akyemaa Ofosu, has ordered the remand of 26 individuals, including one female, in police custody until November 14, 2024, in connection with their alleged involvement in the attempted arrest and destoolment of Akyemfour Asiedu Agyemang III, Kwahu Abetifihene and acting President of the Kwahu Traditional Area.
The suspects were detained following a violent clash that erupted on Thursday, November 7, when a group of armed individuals attempted to unseat the chief at Abetifi Palace. The conflict left six people injured.
According to Citi News sources, tensions flared when Obaapanyin Yaa Asantewaa, claiming to be the Abrewatia (chief’s wife) of the area, arrived with armed men and allegedly removed the acting President to an older palace where she performed destoolment rituals, including the ritual slaughter of a sheep. Local youth, alerted by the news, gathered in protest, armed with machetes, escalating the confrontation.
