- Police denied entry to several high-profile politicians due to lack of accreditation at the Ashanti Region’s Council of State re-election
- ensions escalated with tight security
- Saaka Abuba emerged victorious in the North East Region’s re-run
Tensions ran high at the Ashanti Region’s Council of State re-election as security forces turned away key political figures, including former Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, former Bantama MP Henry Kwabena Kokofu, Kwadaso MP Kingsley Nyarko, and ex-Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong. The politicians were denied entry for not having the required accreditation.
Police maintained a strict presence, allowing only accredited assembly members eligible to vote to access the venue.
Despite the tense atmosphere, the individuals involved complied without further incident.
Security was on high alert, with barriers and a water cannon stationed to ensure order. Earlier in the day, one individual was arrested following disturbances at the venue.
The re-run in Ashanti follows a similar disruption in the region’s initial election, leaving no clear winner at first.
