A Flash in the Pan: Bawumia Mocks NDC’s ’24-Hour Majority’
Bawumia highlights the NDC's brief moment of power, emphasizing the need for real electoral victories
- The NDC briefly claimed majority status after a Speaker's ruling
- He labeled their majority as the "shortest-lived in history
- Bawumia asserted that the NPP is poised for a decisive victory
In a jab at the NDC, Vice President and NPP presidential hopeful Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia took a dig at their brief claim to majority status in Parliament. Following a Supreme Court ruling that paused the Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin’s declaration of four vacant seats—after some MPs decided to run as independents—the NDC briefly celebrated a majority.
However, the excitement was short-lived, as the Supreme Court’s decision restored the NPP’s standing, returning the NDC to the minority. Speaking to a lively crowd in Nkawkaw, Bawumia quipped, “Just a few days ago, they claimed to be the majority. Well, that majority lasted just 24 hours—the shortest-lived majority I’ve ever seen!”
He emphasized that true majority status can only be achieved at the ballot box, stating, “If they want a majority, they need to win elections. You can’t just create a majority in Parliament.”
Bawumia expressed confidence that the NPP would secure a significant victory in the upcoming elections, assuring supporters, “From my visits to over 200 constituencies, I know that if elections were held today, the NPP would have a decisive majority in Parliament.”
