NPP Will Return to Power in 2032 – Blind Historian Bulgaria Predicts

Bulgaria Foresees NPP's Comeback After 2028; Critiques Running Mate and Candidate Strategy

Story Highlights
  • Bulgaria predicts the NPP will return to power in 2032, not in 2028
  • He believes Dr. Bawumia deserves another chance as NPP’s presidential candidate
  • Bulgaria criticizes Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh as the worst running mate in NPP history

Afari Duodu, widely known as ‘Bulgaria’ and hailed as a walking encyclopedia of Ghanaian politics and history, has predicted that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will not regain power in the 2028 election. According to him, the NPP’s return to power is more likely in 2032.

Speaking on the Lawson TV/Radio Ghana Se Sen Morning Show with Kwame Tanko and Franko The Hitter, Bulgaria explained that based on historical trends, he could not identify the ideal candidate for the NPP in the next election. However, he stated that it would not be a bad idea if Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia were given another chance.

“Bawumia deserves another opportunity, and it wouldn’t be a bad idea if the NPP gave him that chance,” he said.

Bulgaria clarified that President Akufo-Addo did not impose Dr. Bawumia as the NPP’s candidate for the 2024 election, nor did he offer him special support during the party’s presidential primaries.

Regarding the NPP’s parliamentary candidates who lost in the recent elections, Bulgaria argued that their defeats were not a reflection of the party’s problems, but rather a result of their lack of effort in securing their seats.

He also critiqued the NPP’s current Vice Presidential candidate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, calling him the “worst running mate” in the party’s history. Although Bulgaria did not have the opportunity to observe Rawlings’ running mate, Kow Nkensen Arkaah, he compared Opoku Prempeh to former Vice Presidents Alhaji Aliu Mahama and Dr. Bawumia, confidently stating that NAPO (Dr. Prempeh) was the least effective.

He stated that Napo’s public claim that the NDC was responsible for the death of Evangelist Amoako was unnecessary and illogical, as the prophet passed away on March 26, 1990, long before the NDC was even established

Bulgaria urged the NPP to reconsider pushing for Kennedy Agyapong and Dr. Bawumia as presidential candidates for 2028, advising the party to carefully analyze why they lost with such a significant margin.

In the December 2024 elections, John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) triumphed with 56.55% of valid votes, consolidating the NDC’s dominance with over 180 parliamentary seats. This result leaves the NPP reflecting on its future under Dr. Bawumia’s leadership.
