Fifteen supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), accused of setting the Electoral Commission (EC) office in Asuboi, Ayensuano Constituency, ablaze, have been granted bail by the Osino District Court in the Fanteakwa South District of the Eastern Region.
The group, known as the Ayensuano Concerned Youth, allegedly set fire to the EC office on December 10, 2024, following a protest against the declaration of Ida Adwoa Asiedu as the MP-elect for the constituency.
The accused individuals were each granted bail of GH₵20,000 with one surety, despite objections from the prosecution, which raised concerns over ongoing investigations and the potential for interference. The court, however, ruled in favor of the defense counsel, noting that the suspects were well-known community members who would cooperate with legal proceedings.
The case is set to resume on January 14, 2025, with the suspects required to report to the Kibi police commander to ensure their availability.
