NPP Leadership Ignored the Fire, Now They’re Burnt – Oforikrom MP Roars

Dr. Marfo slams party leaders for ignoring MPs’ warnings, blaming arrogance for the election collapse

Story Highlights
  • Over 90 MPs called for the Finance Minister's removal due to economic hardships
  • Leadership failed to address voter frustrations
  • Dr. Marfo holds NPP leadership responsible for ignoring critical concerns that led to voter backlash

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Oforikrom, Dr. Emmanuel Marfo, has strongly criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP) leadership and President Akufo-Addo, holding them accountable for the party’s poor performance in the December 7 general elections.

Dr. Marfo attributed the defeat to the leadership’s refusal to act on concerns raised by over 90 MPs, particularly their calls for the removal of Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta. He argued that the Finance Minister’s economic policies sparked discontent among constituents, yet these warnings were dismissed.

“About 90 MPs cannot all be ignorant of what is happening on the ground. We interact with the people daily, attend their funerals, and hear their frustrations firsthand. Ignoring these concerns cost the party dearly,” he stated.

Dr. Marfo accused the NPP leadership of failing to confront President Akufo-Addo on these pressing grassroots issues, which eroded the party’s credibility and weakened its bond with supporters.

He dismissed claims that the MPs’ demand for Ofori-Atta’s removal was driven by personal motives, emphasizing that the overwhelming majority of MPs had valid concerns that went unheard.

Reflecting on the election results, Dr. Marfo concluded that the party’s failure to address economic hardships and grassroots feedback naturally led to voter dissatisfaction and their subsequent electoral struggles.
