Former Auditor-General Daniel Yao Domelevo has called on the incoming administration of John Mahama to honor the overwhelming electoral victory by focusing on good governance and leaving a lasting legacy.
He emphasized that the significant number of Members of Parliament elected to support Mahama should be used to implement positive changes for the country.
“The people have entrusted you with this mandate to deliver meaningful progress. Mahama should aim for four years of unprecedented governance,” Domelevo stated.
He also warned against abusing the parliamentary majority to pass policies that may not serve the people’s best interests. Domelevo expressed support for constitutional and legal amendments that would improve governance in Ghana.
Additionally, he advocated for the separation of the Attorney General’s office from the Ministry of Justice, arguing that accountability would be compromised when a cabinet minister is both a policymaker and enforcer of the law.
He further urged Mahama to act swiftly after taking office, particularly in recovering looted funds as promised. “There should be no delays—his team must hit the ground running from day one,” Domelevo stressed, adding that Mahama’s experience should guide the quick recovery of funds and prevent any capital flight from the country.
