Adams Abdul-Salam, the Member of Parliament for New Edubiase, has assured that the incoming National Democratic Congress (NDC) government, under President-elect John Dramani Mahama, is fully committed to securing the Black Stars’ qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Despite Ghana’s disappointing failure to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) for the first time in 20 years, where they finished bottom of Group F alongside Angola, Sudan, and Niger, the Black Stars remain in a strong position for World Cup qualification.
After four matches in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, Otto Addo’s team sits second in Group I with nine points.
Speaking on the Asempa Ultimate Sports Show, Abdul-Salam emphasized that President-elect Mahama is resolute in his support for the Black Stars’ World Cup bid.
“President-elect, John Dramani Mahama, and the NDC government are determined to ensure the Black Stars qualify for the 2026 World Cup,” he stated.
Although Ghana failed to secure a place in the 2025 AFCON tournament, Abdul-Salam expressed confidence that the new administration would collaborate closely with the Ghana Football Association (GFA), providing the necessary resources and logistics to help the Black Stars achieve their World Cup qualification. “Our biggest priority is to ensure the Black Stars qualify for the tournament,” he added.
Mahama was declared the winner of the 2024 general elections on December 9.
The Black Stars are scheduled to play their next World Cup qualifier against Chad on March 17, 2026, followed by a match against Madagascar on March 24, 2025.
