The Ashanti Heritage Front (AHF), a pro-Ashanti development group, has raised concerns about an alleged plot by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) during the upcoming December 7 general elections.
According to the AHF, they are aware of plans by the NDC to use John Mahama’s brother, Alfred Mahama, along with Hopeson Adorye and Richard Jakpa, to execute “evil machinations” in the Ashanti Region.
Speaking at a press conference in Kumasi on Tuesday, December 3, the Convenor for the group, Collins Owusu Amankwah, disclosed that the NDC is allegedly recruiting former military and police personnel, as well as other thugs, to create chaos on election day.
The intention, he claimed, is to intimidate voters and deter them from turning out in large numbers to cast their votes.
“We are aware that they are recruiting former military and police personnel, as well as other thugs, to cause confusion in the Ashanti Region and intimidate voters on election day, December 7,” he stated.
Mr. Owusu Amankwah further warned that the AHF has measures in place to protect the ballot until the Electoral Commission officially declares the election results after voting and counting.
“We, therefore, caution elements in the NDC that the NPP will use all legitimate means to ensure a peaceful voting process on December 7,” he added.
He reiterated the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) commitment to a clean campaign, emphasizing that their flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and parliamentary candidates have consistently focused on issue-based campaigns across the country.
“Our campaign has been centered on our strengths, our track record, and the issues we have raised. Our message to the electorate has been superior, clear, and unambiguous. We are confident of winning a majority in Parliament and retaining the Presidency on December 7,” the AHF Convenor said.
He also assured the media and supporters that the NPP is determined to protect its strongholds and consolidate its gains in other regions, maintaining that victory is within sight.
“We want to assure the media and Ghanaians that the NPP stands resolute in protecting our strongholds. By God’s grace, we are winning both the parliamentary and presidential elections on December 7,” he stated.
Collins Owusu Amankwah urged all party members and Ghanaians to go out on December 7 and vote for the NPP.
