The National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) has unveiled a list of hospitals offering free dialysis treatment starting today, December 1, 2024. The initiative, championed by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, aims to ease the financial burden on kidney patients covered by the NHIS.

This policy builds on a successful pilot program initially targeting individuals under 18 and over 60, now expanded to include all eligible NHIS beneficiaries.

Facilities providing free dialysis include:

  • Hart Adventist Hospital
  • Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital
  • Korle Bu Teaching Hospital
  • 37 Military Hospital
  • Cape Coast Teaching Hospital
  • Tamale Teaching Hospital
  • Regional Hospital, Bolgatanga
  • Upper West Regional Hospital
  • Ho Teaching Hospital
  • Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital
  • And many more across Ghana.

While the initiative promises life-changing relief, questions about infrastructure readiness and resource allocation persist.

Dr. Bawumia assured Ghanaians of the government’s commitment to ensuring the program’s success, emphasizing its role in improving healthcare access for vulnerable groups.

This milestone policy marks a major stride in Ghana’s journey toward equitable healthcare for all.
