President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has praised the successful completion of the Obetsebi Lamptey Interchange, calling it a significant achievement in his administration’s efforts to modernize infrastructure and drive national development.

During the inauguration ceremony on Friday, November 29, 2024, the President emphasized that the project is a vital solution to the persistent traffic congestion in Accra and a catalyst for economic growth.

He highlighted the interchange’s role in improving urban mobility and streamlining transport along one of the capital’s busiest roads.

“This project is a cornerstone of our government’s transformative agenda,” said President Akufo-Addo. “It exemplifies our commitment to modernizing infrastructure across the country and aligning our vision with the goal of creating a more connected and efficient transportation network.”

The President underscored that the Obetsebi Lamptey Interchange is part of a broader plan to enhance infrastructure and urban development nationwide, with ongoing and upcoming projects designed to improve transportation systems and foster growth.

He also urged the public to play a part in maintaining and preserving the interchange to ensure it continues to benefit Ghanaians for years to come. “I am delighted to be here today to commission the second phase of the Obetsebi Lamptey Interchange. This is a testament to our commitment to development—development that boosts mobility, supports economic growth, and enhances the quality of life for all citizens.”

Addressing the collaboration between stakeholders, the President praised the partnership between government agencies, contractors, and the local community that made the project possible.

In his remarks, Greater Accra Regional Minister Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus Glover issued a firm warning against unauthorized activities at the interchange.

He emphasized that the city authorities would not tolerate the construction of kiosks, mechanic shops, or any other unauthorized structures that could detract from the project’s integrity and functionality.
