IGP Assures Peaceful Elections: Police Won’t Disrupt Ghana’s Peace

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has praised political parties, presidential candidates, and their supporters for their peaceful conduct throughout the electoral process so far.

He highlighted that this responsible behavior has contributed to a calmer, less tense atmosphere, with little to no violence, making this one of the most peaceful election periods in Ghana’s history.

Speaking at the signing of the 2024 Peace Pact on Thursday, November 28, Dr. Dampare acknowledged the positive efforts of the candidates, their supporters, and the general public, which has significantly facilitated the work of the Ghana Police Service.

However, he reminded everyone that the critical phase—the presidential election on December 7—is still ahead and urged candidates to continue their commitment to peace to ensure a successful election.

Dr. Dampare reiterated the Police Service’s unwavering commitment to its constitutional duty of maintaining peace, security, and law and order throughout the election period, the post-election phase, and beyond.

“With this commitment, we want to assure you that the police will not be the source of any disturbances that could disrupt the peace we hold dear,” he stated.

He also urged all stakeholders to do their part in ensuring a peaceful election, warning against any actions that could threaten the nation’s stability.

Dr. Dampare emphasized that the Police Service’s pledge to uphold peace is not merely a statement but a concrete and deliberate commitment to preserving the nation’s security and harmony.
