Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has stood firm on his endorsement of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2024 presidential candidate, despite facing backlash from critics.
Responding to calls, including from Movement for Change flagbearer Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, to remain neutral due to his statesman status, Kufuor made his position clear at the Ofori Panin Palace on November 27.
Speaking at a campaign event in Abuakwa South, alongside NPP running mate Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, he urged Ghanaians to rally behind the NPP and Bawumia’s leadership.
“I am being criticized for expressing my views, but age and experience have taught me the importance of speaking truthfully,” he said.
Kufuor emphasized Bawumia’s track record, highlighting his pivotal role in stabilizing Ghana’s economy during Kufuor’s tenure. “He was a key member of the Bank of Ghana team that navigated the country out of financial distress. His capabilities are exactly what Ghana needs now,” he added.
