Dr. Stephen Amoah, the Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso, was involved in an unsettling encounter in Atasemanso, Kumasi, where he reportedly drew his weapon in self-defense after a group of youth approached him with toy guns.

Sources reveal the youth were seeking updates on an Astroturf project being carried out by the MP in the area. However, tensions escalated when some individuals fired the toy guns into the air as part of the festivities, prompting the MP to react.

According to the NPP spokesperson for Nhyiaeso, Jimmy Boakye Ansah, Dr. Amoah was initially caught off guard, having had a friendly conversation with the youth and even offering them money before the situation turned tense. “The individual who displayed the toy gun did so without warning,” Ansah explained.

This incident comes as the Ghana Police Service recently issued a public warning about the growing trend of youth carrying and firing toy guns in public.

The practice has been deemed illegal under Section 207 of the Criminal Offences Act, which addresses actions that could disturb public peace.

Authorities have urged young people to avoid such activities to maintain safety and order in communities.
