Arne Slot: Mohamed Salah Not Distracted by Contract Talks as Liverpool Focus on Key Fixtures
- Arne Slot has reassured that Mohamed Salah is not being distracted by ongoing contract talks
- Salah's current deal expires at the end of the season
- Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk are also out of contract next summer
Liverpool manager Arne Slot has reassured that Mohamed Salah is not being distracted by ongoing contract talks or speculation about his future.
Salah, whose current deal expires at the end of the season, recently expressed disappointment at not being offered an extension, stating he felt “probably more out than in.”
However, Slot is confident that the situation isn’t affecting Salah’s focus. “If I look at my line-ups, Mo is more in than out,” Slot said. “I don’t think he’s distracted at all. He just kept on scoring after his comments, and I haven’t seen any issues with his focus.”
Slot also noted that the squad is fully concentrated on upcoming matches, including the Champions League clash with Real Madrid and the Premier League fixture against Manchester City. “Players are focused on the short term, and that is Madrid and City. There’s no distraction for him or the team,” Slot added.
Salah, Liverpool’s top scorer with 12 goals in all competitions this season, continued his impressive form with a brace in the 3-2 win over Southampton, which extended Liverpool’s lead at the top of the Premier League.
In addition to Salah, defenders Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk are also out of contract next summer. A club source confirmed that negotiations between Liverpool and Salah’s agent, Ramy Abbas Issa, are ongoing and positive.
