  • Bernard Antwi Boasiako described former President Kufuor as a distinguished statesman with an exemplary leadership
  • The opposition party has come under intense criticisms from various quarters
  • The NPP contends that it is no surprise that Mahama’s campaign team has resorted to insulting individuals

The Ashanti Regional branch of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has linked the recent trend of insults in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) campaign to the behavior of their flagbearer, former President John Dramani Mahama.

The NPP contends that it is no surprise that Mahama’s campaign team has resorted to insulting individuals and disparaging national institutions, as this has been Mahama’s approach throughout his political career.

According to the Ashanti Region NPP, Mahama’s rhetoric over the years has fostered an environment where personal attacks and vitriol have become normalized within the NDC’s political discourse.

In a media address responding to recent insults directed at former President John Agyekum Kufuor by NDC youth activist Dela Edem, Ashanti Regional Chairman Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako emphasized that Kufuor is a distinguished statesman deserving of respect, not insults.

The NDC has faced significant backlash from various sectors of society following the recent attacks on Kufuor’s character by one of its communications team members.

Chairman Boasiako highlighted that while NPP leader Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia is actively engaging with voters and promoting his commendable policies, Mahama has instead opted for inflammatory language against his opponents—an approach that his followers have clearly emulated.

“Insults have been a hallmark of former President Mahama’s conduct, so it’s no surprise that his campaign team has adopted the same strategy instead of focusing on substantive issues,” Chairman Wontumi stated.

He noted that, unlike the NDC, the NPP respects former President Kufuor and other esteemed leaders, strongly condemning the recent attacks.

“This behavior from President Mahama and the NDC does not contribute to healthy political discourse. We call on all well-meaning Ghanaians to join us in denouncing this unfortunate attitude and to express their disapproval by voting against Mahama and the NDC,” he urged.
