Story Highlights

  • Bantama has a history of influencing presidential victories
  • Bantama's support was pivotal in John Agyekum Kufuor's rise to the presidency

Dr. Henry Kwabena Kokofu, former CEO of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), has called on the people of the Ashanti Region to ensure a resounding victory for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the upcoming elections.

Speaking on Lawson TV/Radio‘s Ghana ‘Se Sen’ show, Dr. Kokofu emphasized the strategic importance of the Ashanti Region, stating that without their support, Dr. Bawumia’s chances of becoming President would be slim.

Drawing a parallel, he noted how Bantama, a key constituency in the region, played a pivotal role in the election of former President John Agyekum Kufuor, vowing similar support for Dr. Bawumia.

”The Ashanti Region, especially the ‘Bantama Florida’ played a crucial role in securing John Agyekum Kufuor’s presidency and is poised to do the same for Dr. Bawumia,”

Confidently, Dr. Kokofu remarked that Ghanaians appear to have forgiven the ruling NPP for past missteps and are poised to retain them.

He underscored the stakes, highlighting that a vote for the NPP would:

  • Safeguard the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy,
  • Generate one million jobs through digitalization initiatives,
  • Advance Agenda 111 to create opportunities for healthcare workers,
  • Continue infrastructure development, including roads and energy projects,
  • Promote accountability, good governance, and press freedom.

Dr. Kokofu urged the Ashanti Region to take the lead in ensuring these transformative policies are sustained by electing Dr. Bawumia as President.
