The Electoral Commission (EC) has dismissed growing concerns about public trust in its operations ahead of the December 7 general elections.
Responding to a recent Afrobarometer report from the Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana), which suggested that many Ghanaians are increasingly doubtful about the EC’s impartiality, the Commission reaffirmed its readiness to deliver a credible election process.
While the report highlighted a lack of confidence in the EC’s independence, Dr. Eric Bossman Asare, the Deputy Chairperson of the EC, assured the public that these worries were unfounded.
He emphasized the EC’s commitment to electoral integrity, citing extensive measures such as the use of advanced biometric systems, rigorous poll staff training, and strengthened oversight at polling stations.
“We are one of the best in Africa when it comes to elections,” Dr. Asare stated, reinforcing Ghana’s reputation as a leader in election management on the continent.
He urged the public to focus on the Commission’s successful election track record and assured voters that their ballots would be counted accurately and transparently.
