On Tuesday, November 12, 2024, violent clashes in the Daduri suburb of Bawku resulted in two fatalities and several others injured by gunfire.

The violence, which included a gun battle, also led to the destruction of two houses, further exacerbating the region’s ongoing security challenges.

With this incident, Bawku’s recent death toll has risen to 25, following the killing of an elderly man last week who was attacked after losing his way home from the hospital.

The escalating violence has prompted many residents to flee the area, with six buses, escorted by military personnel, transporting individuals from Bawku to Bolgatanga for safety.

The unrest has disrupted daily life, leading to school closures and business shutdowns, posing significant threats to both security and economic stability.

Tensions have heightened following the return of rival chief Alhaji Seidu Abagre, who had been in exile, alongside a series of ambushes targeting travelers.

In response to the escalating violence, authorities have implemented a curfew from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM, enforced by security agencies in an effort to restore peace to the area.
